Dubai’s Al Ahli Club Basketball Team Clinches Third Consecutive GCC Basketball Club Championship Title

DMCC the authority on trade, enterprise and commodities in Dubai, today congratulated Al Ahli Club Basketball team as they retained their GCC Basketball Club Championship crown with an 88-81 victory over Dubai rivals Al Shabab, winning the title for the third consecutive year in Bahrain.

“It has been a tough season this year with steep competition all round so to win the GCC Basketball Club Championship three years in a row is a fantastic team achievement.”

Considered one of the leading men’s basketball team in the region, Al Ahli Club’s basketball team established a solid lead early in the first quarter, with Al Shabab trailing close behind throughout the game. Al Ahli surged ahead to dominate the last half and retain the regional Gulf title.

Held at the Zain Bahrain Basketball Arena in Manama, Bahrain, the 2017 GCC Basketball Club Championship saw eight of the strongest Gulf teams compete including Al Ahli (UAE), Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia), Al-Ahli (Bahrain), Al Sadd (Qatar), Al-Manama (Bahrain), Ettifaq (Oman), Al-Rayan (Qatar) and Al Shabab (UAE).

The inaugural GCC Basketball Club Championship took place in Kuwait in 1982 and has since seen the Al Ahli Club win the Championship three times. Al Ahli Club was founded in 1970 and is one of the most established clubs in the UAE. The basketball team has won 38 championships to date with 16 of these over the past five years.
