Having seen exponential growth in the past decade, the DMCC Pearl Exchange has become an authoritative platform for promoting the trade of both natural, and cultured pearls. Operating as a neutral platform, we offer the opportunity to trade pearls without the formalities of setting up a local company, in a city whose trading heritage of these timeless minerals date back to the 7th century. With their long standing affiliation with power and purity, we offer a globally centralised location to trade a wide variety of pearls from around the world.
Established in 2009 by the DMCC Pearl Exchange, the World Pearl Forum was created to offer a centralised event coordinating industry leading companies and individuals to come together and share both information and insight with one another. Held under the patronage of Her Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we were proud to host the largest gathering of pearl experts in the world in 2009.
Similar to the World Pearl Forum, the DMCC Pearl Exchange also launched the Dubai Pearl Tender in the same year, designed to stimulate the physical trade of pearls through a member-based trading platform. Generating sales of over AED 3.5 million in its first auction the Dubai Pearl Tender has gathered significant momentum in the last four years, with 2011 alone witnessing a total of $29.5 million worth of trade. With recent trading auctions hosted in conjunction with internationally renowned pearl farmers such as Paspaley Pearling Co and luxury jewelry designer Robert Wan, Dubai Pearl Tenders have frequently attracted in excess of over 100 pearl traders from more than 20 countries at any given auction. It was our pleasure to host the first tender of UAE cultured pearls at Almas Tower. The pearls have been provided by RAK Pearls, the UAE’s only commercial pearl farm, and marks the first time UAE cultivated pearls have ever been available for tender.
As one of our many international engagements, Pearl Essence was created to recognise the next generation of jewellery designers by giving students from around the world to produce a variety of innovative pieces with an emphasis of reviving the United Arab Emirates long standing tradition with pearls. Attracting over 644 entries in its first year, students representing over 46 institutes entered the competition with 11 lucky finalists seeing their designs brought to life, courtesy of our generous sponsors.
With greater international cooperation with higher education around the world, we look forward to welcoming the most talented creative students to Dubai to showcase their work in 2014.
