  • The annual report presents sustainability data to DMCC stakeholders on its integrated approach to drive inclusive economic growth, environmental responsibility and social value

DMCC – the world’s flagship Free Zone and Government of Dubai Authority on commodities trade and enterprise –published today its annual sustainability report as part of its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

The report builds on the enhanced strategy developed in line with a new materiality assessment conducted in consultation with all stakeholders. The digital copy of the report highlights DMCC’s socio-economic and environmental performance against its 5C sustainability framework in the period between 1 January to 31 December 2019. The report is also prepared in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards Core option.

DMCC’s sustainability strategy is structured across three core pillars – ‘Sustainable City’, ‘Responsible Business Ecosystem’ and ‘Operational Excellence’ – and continuously strives to adopt programmes in line with the objectives earmarked under each pillar that are reflected in the corporate-wide sustainability scorecard.

To guide its sustainability journey, DMCC appointed a Sustainable Development Goals Steering Committee (SDG SC) in 2018 to oversee and monitor progress of DMCC’s commitments and oversee the implementation of the sustainability strategy. This strategy falls in line with national charters including UAE Vision 2021, Dubai Plan 2021, and Smart Dubai 2021.

In August 2017, DMCC became the first free zone in the GCC to commit to the UNGC, encouraging responsible business practice throughout the entire value chain. In January 2020, and following DMCC’s active engagement and advocacy, 15 leading companies registered in the free zone were recognised for becoming official signatories of the UN Global Compact. Additionally, DMCC is a signatory of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and has taken a leadership role as a member of the UAE WEPs taskforce since 2018.
