Cotton Overview

A strategic initiative of the Government of Dubai, the Dubai Cotton Centre (DCC) is a 100% owned subsidiary of the DMCC is aimed to facilitate cotton trade flows via Port Jebel Ali in Dubai (UAE). It was launched in 2008 with the primary aim of consolidating the  Emirate’s position as a key link in the global cotton supply chain between Central Asia particularly Uzbekistan and the cotton consuming economies in the wider Asian market.

The DCC is a joint collaboration between SJSC Uzprommashimpeks and DMCCA. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two entities during a visit to the UAE by the Uzbekistan President His Excellency Islam Karimov’s in March 2008 and was subsequently honored by an Uzbekistan Presidential Decree with the primary aim of consolidating the Emirate’s position as a key link in the global cotton supply chain between Central Asia particularly Uzbekistan and the cotton consuming economies in the wider Asian market.

Strategic Initiatives:

  1. Exploit the geographical proximities between the exporting countries of cotton from Uzbekistan, and the Commonwealth of Independent States, East and West Africa, and the importing countries of Far East Asia.
  2. Capitalize on the excellent port infrastructure at Jebel Ali, established and reliable business environment of Dubai which equips DCC with the best logistic connectivity and efficiency of shipping lines and routes in the region to feed cotton into the consuming markets.
  3. Strive to provide additional market access for cotton from Uzbekistan
