Maryam Ali Al Hashemi, Director-Kimberley Process

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre

Maryam Ali Al Hashemi is the Director of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) at Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). A joint governments, industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds, the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) imposes extensive requirements on its members to enable them to certify shipments of rough diamonds as ‘conflict-free’.

As KP Director, Maryam has the mandate to manage and supervise the UAE’s KPCS operations, and ensure the correct implementation of the KP rules and regulations within the country. In addition, she is also responsible for the coordination with the UAE Government Officials including the Ministry of Economy and U.A.E Customs, to ensure complete security and confidentiality in the handling of the UAE’s rough diamond import and export movements. The focal point for all correspondence between the UN and the UAE with regard to the KP process, Maryam also corresponds with other KPCS member countries with regard to extremely sensitive data regarding diamonds.

Maryam joined the Dubai Diamond Exchange in March 2003, as the Dubai Kimberley Process Manager and was promoted to KP Director in 2007.
