Dubai Pearl Tender

Gem Quality and Natural Pearls

The Dubai Pearl Exchange is dedicated to promoting global trade for both the natural pearl and the vast array of cultured pearls in today’s market. DPE hosts the Dubai Pearl Tender to bring the best pearls to the regional market.

Last year in association with the leading producers Paspaley Pearling Co., Robert Wan Tahiti Pearls, Jewelmer Pearl Company and Cogent Trading of the Philippines, DPE hosted a world first showcase of gem quality pearls in Dubai. Some of the world’s rarest and most sought after natural and cultured pearls were offered in a private trade tender in February 2009, just prior to the inaugural World Pearl Forum.

The Dubai Pearl Tender was strictly by invitation only, and was limited to an exclusive clientele from the jewellery trade from around the world and members of the Dubai Pearl Exchange. More than 40 companies attended the first ever private tender by the DPE, including representatives from Europe, the USA, the Middle East and Asia, with successful buyers from each of these regions.

The tender succeeded in generating sales of well over US$1 million wholesale value, with some single pieces achieving over US$50,000 per piece and many items sold for well above the estimated price demonstrating the resilience of the top end of the market.

Highlights of the sale included an exceptionally rare drop pair of Paspaley natural pearls purchased by Swiss Pearls of Switzerland and a set of cherry coloured Robert Wan Tahitian pearls for strand and earrings bought by Shafiian Gem. Pearls of Nippon purchased a pink cultured south sea pearl strand from Paspaley as well as a gold cultured south sea pearl strand from Cogent.
